NEOGARD A WINNER WITH BELLAGIO
THE RESORT, HOTEL AND CASINO

Las Vegas, NV-- Bellagio the Resort, Hotel & Casino, named and patterned after an Italian village overlooking Lake Como, is one of the most opulent and expensive resorts to open on the Las Vegas strip to date.  The 3,000-room hotel successfully completed construction in October 1998 with the assistance of the Neogard product line.

General Contractor, Marnell Corrao Associates, Inc. of Las Vegas selected Neogard’s Auto-Gard II, Peda-Gard II and Neoflex elastomeric coating systems to provide protection to the parking structure, exterior balconies and domes of the new hotel.  “The building owners, while excellent at gaming and games of chance, were not willing to risk water intrusion at the world’s most opulent hotel,” states Neogard Regional Manager, Jim Nelson.

The Auto-Gard II system, applied by Sierra Waterproofing of Las Vegas, was applied to both the top and driving decks of the 250,000-square foot parking structure.  Auto-Gard II is an elastomeric waterproofing system that is applied to the finished surface.  It is a single-component polyurethane coating that has an optimum blend of tensile strength (2,500 PSI) and elongation (450 percent).  It is designed to protect new and existing pavement by offering a durable, skid-resistant surface which bridges hairline cracks and protects concrete from leakage and moisture

intrusion.  Impermeable to de-icing, Auto-Gard prevents the damaging effects of rebar corrosion due to chloride ion penetration in new and remedial applications.

Eberhard Southwest Roofing, also of Las Vegas, applied Peda-Gard II to all of the exterior balconies.  Peda-Gard II is a pedestrian traffic-bearing system with the same unique physical properties and protection offered by Auto-Gard II, but engineered for lighter pedestrian loads.  The

system was applied to the highrise tower of the hotel, including all of the balconies of the executive suites.  Assembly of the system included an epoxy primer followed by a slope epoxy at 1/8-inch per foot, a tan base coat, gray wear coat and a tan top coat.

The Villas, which are located at the roof elevation of the hotel, also received an application of the Peda-Gard II system inside the sauna of each individual suite.  The application process was extremely difficult due to the restriction around the perimeter as well as the equipment that would later be installed at this location.  The system for this area consisted of an epoxy primer, a sloped epoxy at 1/8-inch per foot, plus a tan base coat, a wear coat of gray, and top coat of chemical resistant urethane black.

Eberhard Southwest Roofing used Neoflex, Neogard’s elastomeric wall coating system, to coat all the domes of the new structure.  The domes are located at the Waterfronts area of the hotel, which serves as the resort’s impressive centerpiece.  Along the waterfront, a total of eight domes of various sizes were applied with Neoflex acrylic coating.  This was the most challenging application of all the installations.  The surface and shape of the domes as unconventional, and access to the elevated work are proved difficult.  Personal fall protection was a factor as installation took place off of scaffold by 5-point harness and safety lines.  Three large domes were treated simultaneously with two coats of Neoflex being applied per dome per day with a total of six coats per dome.  The remaining domes were done individually as they became available.  Two additional coats of Neoflex were applied to provide added waterproofing protection, because green and gold acrylic paint would enhance the exterior of the upscale resort, and maintenance to the actual wall coating systems would be minimal.

Neogard, a division of Jones-Blair Company, is a leader in elastomeric roofing, surface applied waterproofing and seamless epoxy flooring systems used internationally in commercial and industrial construction.
